Because healing works with moving and circulating energy, there is the possibility that any heart conditions, (especially those who have AF or pacemakers), epilepsy or migraine, or mental health issues, including addictions, may cause the person receiving the energy  to  experience unwanted symptoms after an energy healing or reiki session.

There are two schools of thought on this, the first is that if you have any of these conditions, you have a pacemaker or epilepsy, you shouldn’t receive reiki, or you should at least discuss it with your GP first.   The second is that even if adverse symptoms are experienced for a while after reiki, it is because it is shifting energy that needs to be cleared.  It is still for the ultimate good of the person and in the long run this will produce results that far outweigh the initial discomfort. The huge majority of people report positive results from energy healing including a feeling of calm, inner peace and relaxation, better sleep, and a reduction of their physical symptoms.  However everyone is different, and if it doesn’t feel right, you can energetically stop the session.
